It’s a popular fact that a living room is unfinished without cushions. They form an integral part of the drawing room in a number of ways. They serve a utility purpose and in addition increase the style quotient of the entire living area. Well, did you know that you can glam up your living room further by designing cushion covers on your own too?
Making your own cushion covers is not as hard as it may appear to be. You don’t have to be an artist or very creative to design interesting cushion covers. There are some very straightforward things that you can do to come up with the preetiest cushion covers ever.
One of the simplest things that you can do to design your cushion cover is use buttons. All you need is some buttons in different styles and sizes, a needle and thread. Stitch the buttons on to the cover in random or abstract patterns. The more variety you have in buttons, the better it is going to be. You could just choose slightly fancier buttons. In case, you are good with the thread and needle you might just want to make a pattern from buttons.
For the people who prefer floral patterns or appliques, stitching some fabric flowers on the cushion covers is another great option. In order to prepare these fabric flowers, you will have to draw them on a piece of cloth and cut them out. This flower can also be pasted on the cover directly. Otherwise you may visit the market for some ready made fabric flowers. These are easily available and do not cost too much. If the color of your cushion cover and flowers is in contrast, your covers are sure to look much better.
How about using some paint to design your cushion cover? And you don’t necessarily need to be an artist to do this. Simply get your painting brush and get started. You can paint basic lines on the cushion cover or polka dots. And if you cant even do that, simply splatter paint on the cushion cover. Get paints in different colours and spray it over the cushion cover. This will create an effect that is similar to blow painting.
It would not be incorrect to opine that the applique method for creating cushion covers is an easy thing to do. You can also put to use your old clothes for the same. Simply cut the old clothes in different patterns and styles and stick them to the cushion covers. You can also consider stitching them to the cushion covers. You could add on different types of clothes and patterns to give it a different look altogether.
You need not spend a large amount on cushion covers. The techniques and tips discussed above are enough to get you a bunch of alluring looking covers with way less money and some effort.
